How to copy text from a WhatsApp screenshot
Turn a screenshot into text you can paste. Send it to Echo MSG, check the extracted words and copy the reply on your phone or computer.
If the words are only available inside a screenshot, send that image to Echo MSG on WhatsApp. Copy the text reply, check it against the screenshot and paste it where you need it. If you still have the original selectable text, copying it directly avoids image-recognition errors.
Start with the original text if possible
If you can still select the words in the original message, web page or document, copy them directly. A screenshot turns those words into pixels, so a recognition tool has to read them back. Keeping the original text avoids that extra opportunity for mistakes.
Sometimes the screenshot is all you have: a shared event poster, an image of a notice, or a screen from an app that does not let you select text. Echo MSG can return the readable words as a WhatsApp message. Your phone’s Live Text or Google Lens may also help; compare the options in our photo-to-text guide.
Convert a screenshot into copyable text
- Open the screenshot and make sure the text is readable at normal size. If possible, use the original image instead of a repeatedly forwarded copy.
- Crop out unrelated content while keeping the full lines you need. Be careful not to remove a heading or date needed to understand them.
- Open Echo MSG on WhatsApp and send the screenshot as an image.
- Read the text reply, then compare it with the screenshot. Pay attention to punctuation, web addresses, names and numbers.
- Copy the reply and paste it into your message or document. Edit your copy to fix recognition errors or remove unwanted interface labels.
Echo MSG extracts what it can read in the image. An app’s buttons, notification text or timestamps may be included alongside the words you wanted. Crop carefully or remove those lines after copying, without changing the meaning of the original text.
A screenshot of a voice-note player contains interface text, not the spoken words. To transcribe the recording, forward the actual voice note.
Copy the result on a computer
Open the Echo MSG conversation in your linked WhatsApp Web or desktop session. Send the screenshot as a photo, read the returned message, and use WhatsApp’s available text-selection or copy controls. Paste it into the destination where you need it.
You do not need a separate Echo MSG browser extension. The text stays in the Echo MSG chat until you choose to reuse it; Echo MSG does not edit another app or automatically fill a document for you.
For a long screenshot, send readable sections with some overlap. Use that overlap to check that no line went missing, then remove repeated lines from your final copy. Keep the sections in order rather than treating separate replies as one automatically assembled document.
Keep the context when reusing text
Copied words can lose their source. When it matters, add a note saying where the screenshot came from and when you received it. Preserve labels that explain a price, date or instruction, and verify any link before using it.
Screenshots can also include other people’s messages or private notifications. Share only material you are allowed to send. Echo MSG uses cloud image processing; see the Privacy Policy and the allowance shown in your chat.
If the result is incomplete, work through our image-quality tips. A clearer screenshot often helps more than repeatedly sending the same unreadable image.
Common questions
Can I copy words directly from a screenshot?
A screenshot is an image, so ordinary text selection may not work. A text-recognition tool such as Echo MSG, Apple Live Text or Google Lens can extract the words. Availability and controls depend on your device.
Where does Echo MSG put the extracted text?
The result arrives as a text reply in the Echo MSG conversation. It does not replace the screenshot or change the original conversation.
What if the screenshot is very long?
Use readable sections with a little overlap so you can check the order and avoid missing lines. A long result may arrive in more than one reply; copy each part and remove overlapping text in your own document.
